Marketing, Magic, & The Messy Middle: Wickedly Branded
About Marketing, Magic & the Messy Middle: Wickedly Branded®
Marketing, Magic & the Messy Middle: Wickedly Branded® is a conversational podcast for women building businesses with purpose, impact, and heart.
Hosted by Brand Evolution Strategist Beverly Cornell, each episode feels less like an interview and more like sitting down for coffee with brilliant women who are creating meaningful change in the world.
Every conversation explores four themes:
✨ The Spark
What inspired the guest to start their business, pursue their calling, or make a pivotal change in their life or career.
🌀 The Messy Middle
The challenges, pivots, failures, lessons, and unexpected moments that shaped their journey. The part of entrepreneurship we don’t talk about enough.
📣 Marketing & Visibility
How they share their message, build trust, grow their audience, and navigate the realities of showing up in today’s world.
👑 Legacy
The impact they hope to leave behind, the change they’re creating, and what matters most as they continue to evolve.
Beverly is known for bringing warmth, curiosity, and genuine connection to every conversation. Rather than following a rigid interview format, she shares stories, reflections, and insights alongside her guests, creating authentic discussions that feel relatable, inspiring, and deeply human.
And yes, there may occasionally be a magic wand involved.
Because building a business is serious work, but that doesn’t mean we can’t have fun along the way.
What guests can expect: A relaxed, conversational experience. I love asking thoughtful questions, sharing observations, and exploring the real stories behind the business. My goal is to create a space where guests feel comfortable, seen, and celebrated while sharing lessons that will inspire our audience.

Marketing, Magic, & The Messy Middle: Wickedly Branded
The Evolution Gap: When Your Brand Hasn’t Caught Up to You
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
What if the tension you feel in your business is not confusion, but evidence that you have evolved?
In this solo episode of Marketing, Magic, and the Messy Middle, Beverly Cornell explores what she calls The Evolution Gap, the distance between who you have become and how you are currently showing up in the world. This episode builds on the season’s conversations around brand evolution and the great disconnection, going deeper into why so many consultants, coaches, service providers, and women founders feel hesitation, resistance, underpricing, overdelivering, or discomfort around visibility even after years of experience.
Beverly shares how this gap showed up in her own business, from wanting the work to speak for itself to realizing her self-concept had not caught up with her wisdom, leadership, and the transformation she was creating for clients. She explains how growth without reflection, success without recalibration, and old messaging that still “works” can quietly keep your brand rooted in an earlier chapter.
This episode is an invitation to pause and ask: does your brand reflect the woman you have become, or the woman who was still proving herself?
Through personal stories, client insights, and the lens of the Brand Spark Experience, Beverly shows why deeper clarity is not a vague marketing buzzword. It is the intentional work of reconnecting with your story, values, lived experience, current season, and the impact you are here to create.
If your message, visibility, offers, pricing, or confidence feel out of sync, this episode will help you understand why. The gap does not close with more content, another tactic, or another platform. It closes with deeper clarity, and that clarity is what helps you step into your next chapter with more confidence, authority, and alignment.

Okay, so we've had a whole season of interviews. We've had my first, two episodes, which were all kinda leading up to this, was about, brand evolution and then the great disconnection, and now the evolution gap is what I wanna talk about today. My name is Beverly Cornell, and I am the founder, of Wickedly Branded, and I'm also the host here at the Marketing, Magic, and Messy Middle Podcast. So the evolution gap is the distance between who you have become and how you are currently showing up in the world. So this definitely is an extension of the discon- of the great disconnection. and I see this a lot in our particular customers, which are consultants, clients, coaches, and service providers because they typically start as a one-person shop, a solopreneur who's a freelancer, and then they become experts after years and years of doing the work. And they, then they become trusted advisors, and then they become leaders in their industry, and then they become legacy business owners. And eventually, so many of them end up building something bigger that it ripples outside and much bigger than themselves and their business. But again, their messaging, their positioning, their, visuals don't-- aren't speaking to that evolution that's happening. So the visibility is not there, the pricing's not there, the offers are not there, and sometimes even their self-concept has not caught up. And this was so true for me. I just wanted the work to speak for itself. I did not wanna step in front of my brand. I preached all day long to my clients. I asked them to step in front of their brand, but I did not wanna do that because who was I? I was just Beverly Cornell. I just had a, some years of experience. I went to school, did my thing. Who was I? So my self-concept had not caught up to the wisdom that I had, to what I was teaching, the transformation I was offering to my clients. And that ga- gap between all those not being caught up, the circle of not being caught up, creates symptoms, and those symptoms manifest in our day-to-day business and even our home life. It shows up as hesitation, second-guessing, overthinking, resistance to visibility, underpricing, over-delivering, feeling disconnected from your content, and feeling like your business looks more certain than you actually feel inside. So I just had recently had a conversation with another branding and marketing agency owner, and she was afraid to bill the last bill. She was afraid to send the invoice to end the project and to get paid. And I said, "That invoice s- is more a reflection of where you feel about yourself than ending the project with your client." So it shows up in all kinds of ways, and women are so hard on themselves when it comes to this. They just assume somehow that they don't know enough or that somebody magically knows... There's like a magic little room somewhere where everybody in that room knows how to be successful, and we just haven't been invited to it yet. They think that they should have more clarity by now because they've been doing it for a while, several years, typically, and if they were just-- had a better system or they were more disciplined about the work or better managed their time or more confident, more strategic, they would not feel this tension or this friction of the evolution gap. But just like a lot of things I talk about, like the flying monkeys of distraction and the chute suitcase, this friction is information for you. It is often the signal, the first signal, absolutely, that your external expression is still rooted in an earlier chapter of your business and your evolution. So your business may still be speaking in the voice of the woman who is still proving herself Meanwhile, you've become a woman who is here to lead and discern and guide and build something, and you know it in your bones that you're, you have something that matters and has great impact on people. So what causes this gap? What happens? How does it come? So growth, when you grow as a human and as a business owner, and you don't have time to reflect on the growth, that causes the gap. When you have success, but you never have recalibration of how to make it better, that causes the gap. Old messaging that keeps getting reused because it still works and you've got it memorized, so it's just rote memory, that is a symptom of what causes it. And the very human habit, which is we all do this, of change, of adaption. It happens so quickly that we never stop to ask ourselves, who are we actually becoming in this process of all the things that we're doing? And that was me. I was doing so much for work and so much of my life. we were moving every three years. I was-- we g- we adopted a son. We had four foster children. My stepson was coming and going. We-- I was building this business. I was struggling with infertility. I had, a major injury to my hip. All these things were happening while I was, s- making sure my clients were fine, building my business, growing, adding more services. There was simply not enough time to adapt and stop and ask, "Who are we becoming in this process?" So what helps close the gap then? So we know what causes it. We know what it looks like, where the friction exists. So what is it? It's a word that's way overused, I feel like it's because of AI specifically, I feel like it's way overused. But it's clarity, and it's not this like generic clarity that just exists out in the world of "Oh, get clear." No, it's not just clear clarity. It's not muddy clarity either. But it's-- the kind of clarity that comes from reconnecting deeply with your story, all the loss, all the love, all the transformation you bo- you've had, your values, your lived experiences, your current season. So right now, I am a perimenopausal woman with ADHD. I was diagnosed at age 49 with ADHD, who's raising two boys, and my husband's in the military, and our life is crazy. My current season, my, my deeper work and the impact I wanna create now is to really magnify as many women's voices as possible, because I know deep in my soul, the more women have agency and they have, money and they have power and they have legacy, they'll be sitting at tables they were never allowed to sit at before or even creating their own tables, which is even better. But I also know with that equality comes, a more soulful world, and I want my kids to grow up in That's my why. That's the impact I wanna create right now. So if I can ripple effect that work out to as many women as possible, then I'm gonna know that my, my, my work matters on a really deep level. At Wickedly Branded, this is why, 'cause we went through a whole evolution about two and a half... two years ago, I guess now. This is why I believe clarity is intentionally created, where you have to stop. That's why we have the brand spark experience. It's 90 minutes, c- sometimes goes a little longer, of brand therapy. It is sometimes the only time or the first time someone has actually gotten in your head and gotten all the stuff out on paper to be able to tell you what's happened, to reflect back to you, to listen, to hold space for you. There is so much running around in your head, I know this because I lived it. So much rolling around in your head that you don't ever have time to put it on paper and to release it from your head. 'Cause once it's down on paper, now you have space to think about other things And I can promise you that you're not gonna find clarity intentionally by accident in the middle of a busy week. You might find a glimpse of it or a spark of it, but you need room to notice the patterns, to trace what I call the shimmering thread, to see what has changed, to name what matters now for you, and to recognize that there are things that just no longer fit and can be let go and grieved. So once you have clarity, what's lovely about it, it's amazing, is that when you have intentional clarity, you build confidence. You start to build confidence. So every single time-- So it's not like performative confidence, I'm confident," 'cause that can be very seen through. And it's not like this loud, obnoxious confidence of "Hey, buy now." no, no. It's a cleaner kind of confidence because now you are not trying to force yourself into some little round hole when you're a square. You are finally gonna be able to speak from where you actually are existing and evolving from. And that simple awareness and naming and acknowledgement and understanding and clarity, like the full coherence around that, changes everything for you. It changed everything for me because my message got stronger, my offers became far clearer, like the path to work with me became very clear. the visibility that you get is easier to sustain because it's, again, simple and clear. And the pricing that you, raise begins to make more sense because you're not billing yourself off an hourly rate that-- and making yourself a commodity. You're s- you're showing all the experience together for the work that you do And your business, and I would even say your life, starts to feel like it belongs to you again. It belongs to the actual woman who's leading it. The one thing I want you to take away from this episode and this season is that the gap between who you have become and how you are showing up is not closed by more content or another tactic or another platform or another book. It is closed by deeper clarity And that deeper clarity comes from time. And the thing that we do here at Wickedly Branded that we do really is we take-- we make you accountable for that time, and we ask you loads and mountains of questions to help you get to that place of clarity and understanding and deep wisdom and transformation so that you can begin to evolve quicker into this next step of legacy building. And that to me, that work, ooh, that is the best work I can do. That is my fuel, 100%, absolutely all day long. It feels like Christmas morning. Because when a woman has-- a woman founder has more clarity, intentional clarity, and builds more confidence by every single step she's taking, watch out world. That is amazing, and that's where I feel like we all become more wickedly branded, is when we're living in our truth, fully aligned to who we are, how we show up, who we serve, the transformation we offer, all those things. thank you for being here for season nine. It's been a good season, full of lots of revelations, wonderful conversations with so many guests. and until next season, I want you to dare to wickedly brand it
